Li Xuan, Conductor
One of the first significant romantic composers, Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826) is best known for his operatic works. Bassoon Concerto in F Major, Op. 75 is one of two bassoon concerti Weber composed—Andante and Hungarian Rondo being the other. Written for bassoonist Georg Friedrich Brandt in 1811 and revised in 1822, the concerto puts bassoonists to the ultimate test of virtuosic dexterity and characterized theatrics. The concerto depicts a multitude of characters ranging from a heroic goofball to a sinister villain to an enchanting maiden. With this concerto, prepare your ears and open your mind for an operatic adventure.
