D.F. / arr. Jing Xian
In the fourteenth century, Zhu Yuan-zhang founded the Ming Dynasty and aptly named his reign “the era of superb martial strength.” This piece recalls the warriors who carried out this vision and dedicated their lives to defending and bringing peace to the vast empire. Syncopated rhythms in the lower strings and whirling melodic figures portray their discipline and finesse on the battlefield, punctuated by grand flourishes from the brass. A dignified, introspective interlude ends when the pipa sounds a call to arms, ushering in a spirited coda of valor and prowess.
