Intro to Beyond the Notes

Join us in discovering a unique world of music. Introducing a new series exploring the music of Shen Yun Performing Arts.
In this series, we’ll be sharing with you the stories and culture behind the music of Shen Yun, and taking a closer look at how Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra presents the sounds of traditional China. 
In each episode, we’ll introduce an all-original composition from Shen Yun’s symphony concert. Every piece from the program draws inspiration from China’s rich history of 5,000 years. 
We’ll meet vibrant cultures, like the nomadic ladies in the classic Mongolian Bowls. We’ll travel back in time to witness the divine splendor of the Dunhuang caves. And we’ll give you a glimpse into the distinctive elements of Chinese music, like how the ancient pipa depicts scholars in Poets of the Orchid Pavilion or how the same instrument portrays warriors in Tang Dynasty Training Ground.
We’ll hear elegant court music, religious music, as well as folk and ethnic music from all over China.

So join us on this musical journey, from the rainy hills of southwest China, to the sweeping grasslands of the Mongolian plains; from grand palace halls, to the heights of the heavens, as we take you behind the music of Shen Yun!
