Few heroes save the world in ragged robes and tattered shoes. But the 12th century Chinese monk Ji Gong, affectionately called “Crazy Ji,” was anything but conventional. Meat-eating, wine-drinking, and magic fan-wielding, Crazy Ji was known for overstepping the rules of Buddhist monastic life and helping others in the most surprising ways.

In this story, villains gang up on an innocent flower girl. But Ji Gong’s clever tricks and quirky antics—not to mention magical fan—outsmart them to save the day.
