Early Shen Yun Pieces: The Story of Liang Zhu (2019 Production)

This story, drawn from the classic tale known in English as *Butterfly Lovers*, has been rendered countless times. It begins when a matchmaker shows up at the Zhu household, bringing along an eligible bachelor. Our bachelorette—the scholarly and mischievous Zhu Yingtai—is unimpressed; she would much prefer to go to school. And so with a little ruse she sends the matchmaker and poor lad away. 

With no schools available for girls, she dresses up as a boy and sneaks off. On her journey, she meets another aspiring scholar, a young man by the name of Liang Shanbo. She—still disguised as a boy—immediately develops affection for Liang. But he is too much of a bookworm to fathom her true identity.
